The Masters Is Printing Money at $1M/Hour

The Masters Tournament merch shop just wrapped another week of absolute pandemonium — we're talking $70 million in merchandise sales, roughly $1 million per hour during tournament week. Fans are lining up before dawn — not for tee times, but for garden gnomes, mahjong sets, and coasters in that iconic Augusta font. The genius? Extreme scarcity plus extreme exclusivity. You can only buy Masters gear at Augusta or through their very limited online shop. No Amazon. No Nordstrom. WSJ reported fans spending thousands per visit, with one woman admitting she "blacked out" and dropped over a grand on 18 items. Meanwhile, Golf Digest went undercover inside the sprawling merch operation and golf apparel companies are pulling off "unauthorized" Masters-adjacent merch on the side. For promo pros, this is a masterclass in artificial scarcity — when you can't have it everywhere, people will stand in line at 6 AM to get it anywhere. Real talk tho: if your client isn't doing a limited-run, event-only merch drop in 2026, what are they even doing?

 
House Merch

Your Lake House Now Has a Merch Program

Yahoo and Dengarden both ran features on the exploding trend of "house merch" — families creating custom-branded items for their homes and giving them to guests. Think: custom pens, notecards, matchbooks, stickers, bumper stickers, drink koozies, even lemon drops with a family crest or vacation home logo. It's hospitality meets personal branding, and it's taking off especially among vacation homeowners and Airbnb hosts. For promo pros, this is a brand new category hiding in plain sight. The residential hospitality market is massive, and these families are essentially running mini merch programs out of their lake houses. Custom matchbooks, embroidered towels, branded koozies — this is bread-and-butter promo product, just sold to a different buyer. If you're not pitching "house merch packages" to your residential and hospitality clients, someone else will be.

 
7-eleven Merch

7-Eleven Goes Viral (Again!)

"Nothing could have prepared me for how hard the 7-Eleven merch website goes." That's an actual quote from Axios, and honestly? Same. Fast Company just did a whole deep-dive on the phenomenon of 7-Eleven's merch line — Slurpee costumes, graphic tees, branded everything — going absolutely viral. People are unironically wearing convenience store merch as streetwear. The brand leaned all the way in with bold graphics, self-aware humor, and actually decent design. This isn't "we slapped our logo on a Gildan tee" energy. This is "we hired someone who understands internet culture" energy. For promo pros, the lesson is huge: brand coolness isn't about what you sell, it's about how self-aware your merch is. If a convenience store can become a fashion brand, literally any client can. The key is leaning into the absurdity instead of running from it. Our faves? The Slurpee costume. Obviously.
