Henri Cartier-Bresson was famous for one of the most iconic photos in the 20th century -you’ll recall it immediately- it’s the blurry photo of a man jumping over a puddle, taken in 1932. He also released a book about photography called “The Decisive Moment.” and he is remembered for that phrase and its ability to capture the magic on a moment.
He said this about photography and the same could be said for our own decisive moment when someone receives and opens a beautiful, well-executed promotional campaign: (Paraphrase): “It’s the simultaneous recognition, in a fraction of a second, of the significance of an experience, as well as the organization of forms which give that moment its proper expression.”
Our guest on the skucast is Rhys Bowen, VP of Sales for Name Brand Promotions and we kick off our conversation talking about this decisive moment when it comes to creating campaigns for clients.
A little about Rhys: After a decade of developing a product for many of Europe’s largest companies, including Disney, Estee Lauder, and more, he decided to swap England for America where he, along with Kevin Felgate, leads the incredibly creative team at Name Brand, they’re known for their complex and imaginative projects for some of the biggest brands in the world.
Rhys is also very meticulous in how he communicates and engages with clients, earning him the respect he deserves, not just a thought leader but a thoughtful leader who is passionate about investing in the careers of his team and who, above all, loves what we do.
I love talking with Rhys because he has a slanted perspective -I mean that respectfully- he looks at the same things we do every day but he always seems to be looking at it from a different angle and as such, heightens the value of what we do. We talk about:
The nuances of sales leadership
Selling ideas vs products
The art of continuing the conversation throughout the ideation process when you hit roadblocks
Taking the long view and the danger in short-sightedness in selling
And more!
