The AI Promo Brief: Issue #22

OpenAI Built a Creative Department Into ChatGPT

OpenAI just made ChatGPT a lot more useful for creative teams. Its new Codex plugins include one built for creative production that turns a written brief into reviewable assets β€” campaign boards, display-ad variations, even product lifestyle shots and ecommerce-ready image sets β€” working straight through Canva, Figma, and Shutterstock. There's a product-design plugin too, for spinning early ideas into prototypes. And ChatGPT just got its biggest memory upgrade since the original launch, so it stops forgetting your brand between sessions. For a promo shop, that's the jump from "AI writes my copy" to "AI builds the campaign." Go get creative!

Agents Took Over Google I/O & Here's What You Need to Know

Google I/O 2026 -- Google's annual developer conference (where the company previews its biggest product launches) was wall-to-wall agents. The company unveiled Gemini Omni, a model that can create anything from any input starting with video, and Gemini 3.5 Flash, its fastest frontier model built for agentic tasks. It introduced Gemini Spark as a 24/7 personal AI agent that takes action across your Google products, and upgraded Search with agents that don't just answer questions but act, including a Universal Cart that shops across the web for you. Gemini 3.5 Flash is now the default model powering AI Mode in Search globally, which means the way your brand shows up in search results is fundamentally changing. If your site isn’t optimized for AI agents, you're invisible to the next generation of buyers. Start thinking about your site this way: it needs to be easy for both humans and bots to navigate.

Sparky Just Became the Highest-Performing Sales Rep at Walmart

On its Q1 2026 earnings call, Walmart CEO John Furner said the company is becoming "AI native." The proof is Sparky, Walmart's AI shopping agent, which doubled its weekly active users in a single quarter. Customers who use Sparky show average order values roughly 35% higher, and units purchased through the agent have more than quadrupled since last quarter. Sparky now works across app, web, and in-store. It handles personalized replenishment, meal planning, and even speaks Spanish. Total e-commerce was up 26%, advertising revenue up 37%, on $177.8 billion in quarterly sales. For promo distributors, this is the clearest signal yet that AI agents don't just answer questions, they close deals. If the world's largest retailer is crediting an agent with growth by a third, every business that sells anything should be paying attention to what "agentic commerce" looks like for their own customers. A bit more: Walmart is now opening Sparky up to advertisers and brought Sparky to ChatGPT. Kellogg even published a case study on it

Another Claude Already?

If it feels like there's a new Claude every few weeks β€” there is. Opus 4.8 dropped May 28, barely weeks after the last flagship. Good news: you don't have to chase it. It auto-upgrades, it's the same price, and the meaningful changes are the kind you feel rather than read about. It's more honest and flags when it's unsure, and it's steadier on long, multi-step work. The takeaway for your team isn't "go test the new model." It's "the floor keeps rising for free." Set your people up to use Claude and the upgrades just keep showing up. Nice problem to have.

πŸ“± Apple just handed Siri's brain to a rival. At WWDC β€” Tim Cook's last keynote β€” the rebuilt "Siri AI" now runs on Google's Gemini. It might finally be worth talking to.

πŸ’° Anthropic filed to go public β€” reportedly a ~$47B revenue run-rate and a $965B valuation, which would make the Claude maker the first big AI lab to list, ahead of OpenAI.

🎨 Figma Agent turns a written brief into editable, multi-screen designs from your own components. Your design team is about to ship a lot faster.

πŸ–ΌοΈ Krea 2 is an image model built around moodboards and aesthetic control, not text prompts. Finally, AI art direction that gets "vibe."

πŸ“Š Google Analytics now splits ChatGPT, Gemini & Claude traffic into its own GA4 channel. Tracking AI referrals just got real β€” about time.

🟩 NVIDIA dropped Nemotron 3 Ultra, a 550B open model you can self-host β€” the open-weight crowd is closing the gap on the big labs fast.
